Neonatal Peritoneal Dialysis
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is generally considered the optimal dialysis modality for neonates. PD allows for the slow removal of fluid and solutes while avoiding hemodynamic instability. It is technically simple and, when necessary, can be performed continuously in the neonate hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit. In this review, we discuss the salient features of neonatal PD, including the rationale and indications for PD, its advantages and disadvantages, the PD prescription, nutritional considerations for the neonate undergoing PD, and the management of peritonitis.

Peritoneal dialysis in the pediatric intensive care unit setting.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units (ICUs). Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is frequently needed in children in whom supportive therapy is not enough to satisfy metabolic demands or to provide adequate nutrition in cases of oliguric kidney failure. The decision to begin dialysis should not be delayed, because experience in infants sh...
متن کاملThe Acute Temporary Peritoneal Dialysis in Neonates: A Five-Year Experience
Background: The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the characteristics of patients, treated by acute peritoneal dialysis (PD). We also assessed the indications for PD, PD-associated complications and neonatal outcomes in our patients. Methods: During five years, 30 term newborns underwent temporary cycling PD. The procedure was performed by applying the manual technique. A straight ...
متن کاملInotropic support and peritoneal dialysis adequacy in neonates after cardiac surgery.
We describe the impact of cardiovascular pharmacologic support on peritoneal dialysis adequacy in 20 neonates who required postoperative renal replacement therapy following cardiopulmonary bypass exposure. Peritoneal dialysis was administered for 2.5 (2) days. Peritoneal dialysis creatinine clearance was 3.4 (2.1) ml/min/1.73 m(2) and ultrafiltration rate was 9.75 (10) ml/h. Residual creatinine...
متن کاملCorrelational studies on insulin resistance and leptin gene polymorphisms in peritoneal dialysis patients
Objective(s):The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and leptin (LEP) gene polymorphisms in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Materials and Methods: From July 1, 2011 to August 1, 2011, patients who received chronic PD were chosen and divided into three groups (DM, high HOMR-IR, and low HOMR-IR). Two PCR products of LEP were sequenced and aligne...
متن کاملFeasibility of Peritoneal Dialysis in Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants
Acute renal injury is common in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants with a frequency ranging from 8% to 24%. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) has been used only occasionally in ELBW. We report our experience and share the solutions used to tackle the difficulties rising from the small size of this type of patients. PD was successfully performed in three ELBW infants with acute renal failure. A ne...
